Gucci Biography

Gucci is celebrity. From Hepburn to Jackie O to Madonna to Gwyneth Paltrow, Gucci has graced the frames of the most beautiful women in the world. Beauty and celebrity are a perfect match…and Gucci is the design that brings the two together.

With elegance, sass, fun and excitement, Gucci understands women. Gucci understands beauty. Gucci handbags are like none other. Gucci makes accessories that inspire. Gucci handbags make me giggle. They have a gorgeous sense of design and a gorgeous sense of feel, and I feel gorgeous when I carry a Gucci bag. I feel sexy. I feel like I am a celebrity.

Gucci is graceful, gregarious, and gorgeous.

In 1921, Guccio Gucci created the "House of Gucci". Like many Italian design houses, Gucci began in the leather goods and saddlery business. With this tradition at the core, with attention to craftsmanship and timeless design, Gucci carries with it today a sense of timelessness and heritage. By the 1960's and 1970's, Gucci was at the pinnacle of chic. By the 1960's, Gucci graced the pages of the leading fashion magazines, and graced the frames of the world's leading beauties.

By 1995, Tom Ford, then Gucci's lead designer, created a worldwide splash with his ready to wear collection. Ford had created a Gucci world. Inspired by Ralph Lauren, a designer who, Ford said, " (was)…the only designer to really create an entire world… you know exactly what his people look like, what their houses look like, what kind of cars they drive." In 1995, Ford created a world of hedonistic culture, of urban glamour, and uncompromising fashion. This again catapulted Gucci to the heights of the fashion world. With devotees such as Madonna and Elizabeth Hurley, Gucci was the envy of the couture culture. By 2003, Ford had Gucci recapturing the glamour of Hollywood's golden years. With an ever-changing, but simultaneously trend setting and classic, Ford powered Gucci to iconic status.
